A girl on the edge of adulthood learns about the deceptions of the adult world.

Director Koji Fukada (Hospitalité, EIFF 2012) returns with a pleasingly low-key and thoughtful look at an 18-year-old secondary-school girl, Sakuko, who accompanies her aunt on a seaside summer holiday. Among the new faces she encounters are a philandering college professor, a tough young waitress and a troubled young refugee from Fukushima who is working at his uncle's love hotel. The spirit of Eric Rohmer lives in Japan! [12A]
