Nai An, Kate Wen, Sun Ming / Fiction / Mandarin

Injustice exposed through a mother’s love and sorrow.

The film takes its starting point from a notorious recent incident in Shanghai: a young man, after being arrested for riding an unlicensed bicycle, killed six police officers and was convicted and executed. The film focuses on the young man’s mother, who, sent to a mental hospital after her son’s arrest, was unable to come to his aid. A stark, nuanced and passionate work by a maverick independent filmmaker.
