The Last of England
Tilda Swinton, Nigel Terry, Jonathan Phillips, Spencer Leigh
Jarman’s impassioned comment on life in Thatcher’s Britain.
Apocalyptic and nostalgic this abstract montage of home movies and distorted imagery set against a perplexing soundtrack of discordant sounds and ambient noise is seen as Jarman’s most politically aware work. First screened at EIFF in 1987 it features Tilda Swinton in one of her earliest roles. The films of Derek Jarman at EIFF have been programmed by our Guest Curator, Gus Van Sant.
