This multi-layered, elliptical thriller is at once a mysterious story of serial murders, an intimate depiction of family history, and an honest portrayal of fraught and obsessional love between two women. Looking back on their estrangement following the violent death of their mother (a Portuguese political refugee), Alexandre and Jeanne attempt to reconnect and finally free themselves from a traumatic past. Sensuously shot in Super-8 and 16mm, this is a hypnotic exploration of time, place and memory.
