Please note that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the screening time for this film has changed from those given in the EIFF Brochure. The Name of A River will now show at 19:30 on Thursday 18 June.

A young couple meet and wander through the forests of Bengal. They hear folk music, take boat rides, encounter a theatre group and a disused airstrip - and slowly we realise that their journeys are a homage to Ritwik Ghatak, who Anup Singh never met, but whose passionate, modernist melodramas he admires. The Name of a River is sensually lovely in its own right; but for those familiar with Ghatak’s movies, it sings.
