The Kreutzer Sonata
Danny Huston, Elisabeth Röhm, Matthew Yang King, Anjelica Huston
Sexual jealousy set to Beethoven: an erotic and emotional tour-de-force.
Director Bernard Rose here revisits the formula that made Ivansxtc (2000) such a critical hit: script based on Tolstoy, mighty lead performance courtesy of Danny Huston. Huston plays a wealthy philanthropist who becomes maniacally possessive of his beautiful musician wife. Based on a story that Tolstoy wrote in response to the titular Beethoven work, this is a gripping, grown-up dissection of a modern marriage, also featuring a charismatic cameo by the great Anjelica Huston.
