Slingshot
Jiro Manio, Kristoffer King, Coco Martin, Nathan Lopez, Jaclyn Jose
Kinetic, closeup life on the streets, Manilastyle.
The Philippines’ prolific new directing star Brillante Mendoza used hidden cameras to place the audience right in the beating centre of this study of slum life. From an opening police raid that will have your heart in your mouth, through romantic, financial and legal quandaries all punctuated by bursts of violence, this film is fired by vigour, rage, and a rare stylistic dynamism.
