Foster Child
Cherry Pie Picache, Eugene Domingo, Jiro Manio; Kier Segundo, Dan Alvaro, Alwyn Uytingco
This is unforgettable: beautifully-observed, moving comment on a timely issue.
Thelma and her husband live in the slums of Manila, and act as foster parents to some of the country’s countless displaced children. Three-year-old John-John has finally been selected for adoption by a wealthy American family, and we follow Thelma through her final day with him. As intimate and emotional as it is, this breathtaking film is also a larger commentary on the pressures of poverty and the inequality between first and third world economies.
