Identity is everything in this stylish Spanish thriller.
Hans (Alex Brendemühl, also co-screenwriter) arrives in Majorca to work as a labourer for a rich German businessman. He soon discovers that he is taking over from another Hans, who has recently vanished. The previous Hans left all his belongings and considerable bad feeling behind - and the community now seems oddly unwilling to welcome his replacement and namesake. Or could it be that one name, and one identity, is quite interchangeable with another? Set in a cold, barren town that looks nothing like the typical picture-postcard Majorcan resort, this tense, highly original whodunnit centres upon a mesmerizing performance by Brendemuhl, who was last in Edinburgh with Jaime Rosales's The Hours of the Day in 2003.
