Jirí Menzel
Jirí Menzel was a student at the Prague Film Academy until 1962. His first feature, Closely Observed Trains won him an Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film. Menzel’s last film to date was an adaptation of the bestselling novel The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin. Menzel appeared as an actor in The Gentle Barbarian and Escape to Budin. He is a member of The Czech Film and Television Academy, The European Film Academy and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
