Editor's Blog: Meeting the Filmmakers
Today on the EIFF blog, our Web Editor, Nicola Balkind, reflects on the fantastic guests at this year's Festival and the unique experience of watching films at the Fest.
One of the highlights of each Edinburgh International Film Festival, for me, is meeting the filmmakers.
Every year, the Festival becomes home to dozens of filmmakers and Industry delegates, and a great number of screenings are attended by talent. Usually this comes in the form of an introduction from the filmmaker or, more frequently, a Question and Answer session after the film.
Being the Festival Wed Editor also affords me the chance to meet some great filmmakers and hear more about their craft.
In the past week I've interviewed the likes of up-and-coming director Graham Hughes (A Practical Guide to a Spectacular Suicide), pop culture documentarian Alexandre O Philippe (Doc of the Dead), and a pair of indie American writer-directors: Hellion writer-director Kat Candler, and I Believe in Unicorns writer-director Leah Meyerhoff (article to follow).
If these often very different filmmakers have one thing in common, it's passion and drive for the art form. They speak eloquently about their work and often even have a few words of encouragement to share.
It is this energy that gives the Festival much of its vibrancy and makes it such an exciting place to be for 12 days out of the year – whether you're a filmmaker or a film watcher.
So what are you waiting for? Check out today's listings and go and meet the filmmakers yourself.
