Having the opportunity to bring audiences to a seriously under-represented area of filmmaking and being able to give something back to people passionately pursuing their art on the margins of more commercial film production. The worst part is having to choose which films to show!
Kim has been around EIFF since 1997 when she worked as an usher and then box office assistance at Filmhouse! She gained a PhD from Edinburgh University in 2007 for a thesis on the films of Man Ray. Since then she has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Kent, and is currently Lecturer in Film Studies at Aberystwyth University. In 2008 she set up an experimental film festival in Edinburgh called 'Diversions', which she is hoping to revive in some form sometime soon...
Winners of EIFF 2014’s short film awards and two of its documentary premieres have been nominated for 2015 BAFTAs.
